I am the Managing Director of the Center for Global Studies (CGS) at the University of Bonn as well as Lecturer and Research Fellow at the Chair in International Relations, Institute for Political Science and Sociology, University of Bonn.

Since September 2023, I have been Non-resident Visiting Distinguished Fellow at the Center for Global Affairs (CGA) at New York University. 

My main research areas are

• power and power shifts in international affairs, with a special focus on soft power;
• German-American and transatlantic relations;
• U.S. foreign policy and the U.S. presidency;
• Europe’s role in an age of great-power competition;
• charismatic leadership and individual agency in world politics;
  
• history and historical analogies;
• International Relations theory.
