I am Managing Director of the Center for Global Studies (CGS) and Senior Lecturer (Akademischer Oberrat) at the Institute for Political Science at the University of Bonn.

I also serve as Non-resident Visiting Distinguished Fellow at the Center for Global Affairs (CGA) at New York University.

My main areas of research and expertise are

• soft power;
• power and global power shifts;
• German-American and transatlantic relations;
• U.S. foreign policy and the U.S. presidency;
• Europe’s role in an age of great-power competition;
• charismatic leadership and individual agency;
• history and historical analogies in global politics;
• International Relations theory.
